Kolkata: The elections for the seven Municipalities of the state are still pending. The State Election Commissioner Sushanta Ranjan Upadhay and other election officials are holding a meeting to chalk out a plan of holding the elections.
The main agenda of the meeting is to find out a solution of joining the seven Municipalities into the three Municipalities. Apart from that, the date of the elections, Central forces and law and order situation will also be discussed.
The state government had approached the Supreme Court over the election dates on May 15. The apex court had issued a stay on the elections. The state government appealed to the EC to hold the elections on 3 October, although there are questions over the matter since the Durja Pujas are also scheduled in the month.
