Eenam Gambhir Who Addressed Pakistan As ‘Terroristan’, Becomes Victim


New Delhi: Eenam Gambhir, the Indian diplomat, who became a household name in India after delivering stinging responses to Pakistan at the UN General Assembly, , became a victim of snatching in the national capital on Saturday.

She was walking at a park near her house with her mother in Rohini’s Sector 7, A Block when the incident happened at around 11.30 pm. As per details available, two men on a motorcycle snatched away Gambhir’s phone when she was out for a walk in north Delhi’s Rohini area. A police complaint has been registered in the case.

According to the police, the bike-borne men had stopped Gambhir and her mother on the pretext of asking for directions. However, after diverting their attention, the men snatched the 2005-batch Indian Foreign Service officer’s phone.

Gambhir, who is currently posted in New York, is in India for a vacation. “The moment I raised the hand in which I was holding the phone and pointed towards the direction of the temple, the pillion rider snatched away my iPhone 7 plus and the duo sped away,” Gambhir said in her police complaint.

The diplomat said she failed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle as it was dark. The police case has been registered under Sections 356 (Assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person), 379 (Punishment for theft) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), The Hindu reported Rajneesh Gupta, DCP (Rohini), as saying.
