Kolkata: Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation is ready to touch the milestone with the help of high technology. On Thursday the adjoining tunnel to Esplanade of East-West metro will take its place. 28 meter deep underground Diaphragm wall construction has been completed few months ago. A part of the wall will connect the esplanade metro station.
KMRCL source said, there will be a 100 meter gap between two tunnel for technical reason. Maintaining that,the east tunnel has already connected with Esplanade. A soft eye wall has been constructed which is less wider than the other part.
The soil laceration machine which is Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is not ideal to penetrate concrete walls. So a wall made in two layers. The tunnel from Esplanade to PhoolBagan will use another type of machine which is kept in NewTown.
