Kolkata: Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, in the Union Council of Ministers in India, Babul Supriyo said that the work of East-West Metro will not be finished before March 2019. He clearly stated that, the work will be finished within December but it will take time to initiate the service.
A trial run process of East-West metro took place on Monday from Sector V in presence of Union minister Babul Supriyo. Talking to the media, he said that, the first layer of work has been completed. Metro service between Sector V to Phoolbagan will start from March 2019. In the next phase, metro will enter the underground to go to Howrah.
The lay foundation work of the project has been done on February 22, 2019. Several layers of complexity have been underlined regarding this project. the land acquisition process was highly complex. Tackling all the legal issues, the first layer work on the verge of completion. Routes have been changed. The budget has been exceeded which presently standing at 6500 crores. The routes have been changed in the middle of the work so the 30 percent expense has been exceeded.
The initial plan of the East- West metro was that the metro will run till Phoolbagan within June 2018. It will be the first underground metro station of the East-West metro project.
