Kolkata: The first phase of the proposed East West Metro railway services in Kolkata will be operational latest by June 2018.Babul Supriyo, Minister of State for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, said this in a programme organised by MCC Chamber of commerce and Industry on Monday Union.
Phase 1 of the project will connect the IT hub of Salt Lake to the central part of the city, Sealdah. According to central Minister,the issue over relocation of several families from a region lying on the proposed route has been “resolved”. At the sametime he added , he is trying to pre-pone the commencement by six months to December 2017. Work on the proposed metro railway route has been stalled for nearly four years for a variety of reasons, including relocation of squatters and realignment of the railway route.
