Earthquake devastates Nepal, tremors across Kolkata, Delhi


Kolkata, New Delhi: Earthquake reported in Delhi, Bihar, UP, West Bengal: Tremors were felt in Kolkata and Delhi for more than a minute at around 11.44 am. It is originated in Nepal. Impact of earthquake was felt in neighbouring Pakistan as well. Metro services have been halted in Kolkata and Delhi tunnel being checked for cracks.

An earthquake measuring 7.5 magnitude struck 80 km east of Pokhra in Nepal on Saturday, about half way between the town and the capital Kathmandu, the U.S. Geological Survey said, and witnesses said some buldings in Kathmandu had collapsed.

People across northern India rushed out of their homes and offices on Saturday after strong tremors were felt. Massive tremors have been felt in many parts of northern India including Noida, Kolkata and Lucknow.PM Narendra Modi has spoken to Bihar CM Shri NitishKumarJDU ji in connection with the Earthquake. PM has spoken to Sikkim CM Shri Pawan Chamling.PM is trying to reach Nepal PM Shri Sushil Koirala, who is abroad. He has spoken to President of Nepal Shri Ram Baran Yadav.

At least one person was killed when an old building collapsed in the premises of the Indian consulate in Kathmandu when a massive earthquake shook the country on Saturday.
