Bardhaman: Protesting the reluctancy of administration, farmers of Orgram village of Bhatar block in East Bardhaman held a protest in demand of adequate water for irrigation to gate number 640 irrigation officer on Sunday. Recently, the DVC has assured three days water supply after a high-level meeting as the water crisis turning severe and taking a shape of drought.
It is a season of harvest. Farmers of Galsi, Bhatar and Aushgram have already staged protest demanding adequate water supply for harvesting. But no improvement has been reported so far and situation is decreasing constantly.
Reportedly, Aman rice cultivation has been done in 3 lakh 80 thousands hector area. But scarcity of water has halted the process in almost 2 lakh 50 thousands hector area. It is maturing with growing time but the farmers are worried over the final production of Aman rice as there are chance of huge lose.
Highlighting the scarcity, an administration meeting held on October 10. To bring a positive change in the situation, the administration has decided to activate all the sub-mashall. Power department has been contacted for extra power supply. But no improvement happened aftre all this.
The BDO of Bhatar Shubhra Chatterjee has reached the spot after being informed. The agitated farmers has given a written complaint to the BDO. They withdrawn the protest after assuring effective action in this regard. Otherwise farmers will experience huge loss this year.
Another meeting took place on October 25 where the administration has decided to take help of the local water-bodies. Water will be taken from Pond, Canal and water-bodies. Local rice-mills will also extend their helping hand to bring change in the present situation.
