Srinagar: Days after a Delhi Public School (DPS) teacher in Srinagar was sacked for wearing an ‘abaya’ to school, the institution on Sunday apologised for “unintentionally hurting sentiments”.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has maintained that the state is a multi-religious, multi-cultural and a secular entity. “It is a private school. We will contact the management and try to get to the truth,” Education Minister Naeem Akhtar told the state Assembly.
The female teacher working at DPS in Srinagar had resigned after the school management asked her to “choose between her job and abaya”. After the resignation of the teacher, students of the school boycotted classes and exams on Friday seeking an apology from the school mnagement. The students also demanded that the school should recall the female teacher.
