Don’t Talk To Media Without Permission: I & B To Babus


New Delhi: Enforcing the message of discipline in the ranks, the Centre has directed senior officials in the ministry of information and broadcasting and other departments to refrain from interacting with the media without prior authorization from ‘competent authorities’.

A circular issued by the ministry after Smriti Irani took charge,said the decision was taken after it was noticed that officials in the ministry,or its media units, were interacting with the press without prior authorization.

The circular said officials, when they are approached by media representatives, should ‘ direct him/ her to the Press Information Bureau or seek permission of the minister or the secretary of the ministry/ department before meeting the media person.”

It refers to departmental procedures and guidelines and seeks to stress that none but government – designated official spokespersons (PIB) must interact with the media on the governments’s behalf.
