Doctors Held Rally In Kolkata, Demand Arrest Of Accused OC


Kolkata: Several doctors under the Joint Platform of Doctors organisation took out a rally demanding the arrest of the officer-in-charge (OC) of Jadavpur police station, who had allegedly attacked a junior doctor at CMRI Hospital. They took out rally from CMRI to Alipore police station where they submitted deputation.

Joint platform of Doctors organized a conference in the office of West Bengal Doctors Forum on Thursday. There, Dr. Kaushik Chaki said that the police allegedly refused to take an FIR at first, finally after about 24 hours they took complain. If they do not take proper measures we will be forced to carry out bigger movement. He also mentions that in the case of a doctor’s abuse, the accused may be jailed for 10 years under the law. In the last one and half years, 150 cases of torture of doctors and health workers in the state occurred.

On Monday, police did not take any legal action against the accused OC after the 72 hours deadline. A senior member of the organisation threatened to carry out a bigger movement if the accused doctor is not arrested.

On the other hand, according to Lalbazar sources, investigations have begun on the basis of complaint. OC Pulak Kumar Dutta claims that the man asked him to leave the hospital. Then I was not able to keep cool. The man was standing in front of me and talking. There was bandages on my left hand. I pushed the gentleman away by using my right hand. The allegations is totally baseless.
