London: Djokovic defeated Kevin Anderson 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 to win his fourth Wimbledon title. The Serb was playing in his first Grand Slam final since 2016 while Anderson was the first South African to reach a Wimbledon final in 97 years.
Both men had played marathon semi-finals to reach the title clash. Anderson’s semi-final clash against America’s John Isner had lasted over six years – that was the longest Wimbledon semi-final in history. Djokovic, later upstaged Rafael Nadal in the second-longest semi-final in Wimbledon history.
However, the Serb master showed little sign of fatigue on Sunday. Djokovic had taken the first set of his Wimbledon final against Anderson 6-2 in just 29 minutes.
Anderson wasn’t broken in his final 27 service games during his six-hours-plus semifinal win over John Isner, but Djokovic managed it in the first game of the match.
