Despite Ban Sky Lanterns, Noisy Crackers Soar High

Kolkata: Nothing could stop the noise to go high on Diwali evening, not even the apex court’s order, nor the notification by the police or the sound label meter.

Not only sound-emitting fire crackers, but rules were not followed in case of sky lanterns which were banned in the airport area.

Prior to Kali Puja, the Bidhannagar and Barrackpore Commissionerate had announced that Diwaly sky paper lanterns will not be allowed to be flown in the airport and near 8 police stations. In several cases, the police locked the doors of roofs of several houses. But still the noise-emitting firecrackers, nor the sky lanterns could not be stopped.

The sounds of fire crackers were heard everywhere on Wednesday night from North to South and from East to West. In the north, the noise was recorded in Baguiati, Keshtopur Kaikhali, Dum Dum, Narayantala area. The more the night progressed, the more the noise increased. Despite of the police seizing huge number of noise- emitting fire crackers, the noise pollution could not be stopped.
