Chandigarh: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was on Monday sentenced to 20 years in prison for rape and sexual exploitation of two female disciples. This case dates back to 2002, but a blog in ABP News stated that Ram Rahim was accused of harassing girls when he was studying in Class 9.

The blog further said that Gurmeet was weak in studies but excelled in making mischief. As per media reports, 50-year-old Ram Rahim today broke down and asked for forgiveness with folded hands when the sentence was read out by Jagdeep Singh, a special CBI judge, in a makeshift court in the Sunaria jail.

He then refused to leave the court room, set up in the jail library, said the report. Ram Rahim was on Friday found guilty of rape in a case that stemmed from an anonymous written complaint in April 2002 that he had sexually exploited two female followers.
The case was registered by the CBI in December 2002 on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
