Kolkata: Another death took place in Kolkata due to dengue on Saturday.
The death of Asit Das made the death toll jump to 22. As per sources, Asit Das, a resident of Srirampur, died on Saturday at the Ekbalpur nursing home.
Asit Das was admitted to a local hospital on August 18 with high fever. As his situation worsened, he was referred to the Ekbalpur nursing home, where he was shifted. After he was shifted, several tests conducted on him confirmed that he has dengue. Treatments began soon after the reports came. But his condition deteriorated on Saturday morning. He, unfortunately, passed away due to both cardiac arrest and multi-organ failure. Primary reports suggest he died of dengue.
Twenty-two persons have died due to dengue and 1,584 have been diagnosed affected with the mosquito-borne disease in Bengal so far. Though the official count stands at 22 and atleast 4000 are affected with the dengue disease in the state.
This year the first death due to dengue occurred on June 22 and since then the toll has been rising.
State Director of Health Services B. R. Satpathy said that two persons died over the weekend. He also said that the deaths are mainly taking place in the North 24 Paraganas district and especially in the South Dum Dum Municipality area on the northern fringes of the city.
Apart from North 24 Parganas, one person has died in Birbhum district. “But he contracted the disease in Howrah when he was working there,” said Mr. Satpathy.
As for Kolkata, deaths have taken place in Kasba in South Kolkata and Mukundapur on the southern fringes of the city.
