Demanding electricity, villagers hold MLA hostage


Lucknow: In a surprising incident, a Bahujan Samaj Party MLA was held captive by the residents of Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district over constant power cuts in the area.

The MLA had gone to greet residents on the ocassion of Id but they refused to accept it and held them hostage. MLA Babban Singh Chauhan and a local councilor were held hostage for nearly two hours.

The villagers said that they were forced to take the step since they couldn’t see any relief coming their way despite lodging complaints with the local administration.

According to a local, “We are facing severe hardship in daily life. We don’t have the facility of electricity, road and water. We were told that a tender of 80lakhs has been passed but we can’t see any work happening. We will fight till the end.”

The hostage MLA also admitted that there are severe problems of electricity and water logging.
