New Delhi: Some handwritten notes were recovered during the investigation into the deaths of 11 members of the same family in north Delhi’s Burari area. The notes which were found in different notebooks talked about strange religious beliefs, it provided a motive in the case said police. The police officials initially considered it as a case of mass suicide, then they said it could be a murder by one of the family members, who then committed suicide.
According to a national news channel report the notes mentioned, “Use cotton stoles or saris along with ropes. Tie the tapes securely around the eyes. This should be done between midnight and 1 am on a Thursday or a Saturday.” These details completely match with the way the family was found on Sunday morning.
According to PTI the note found in the house said, “The human body is temporary and one can overcome fear by covering their eyes and mouth.” Some reports says few notes also talked about how a human can attain salvation and how the human body is temporary but the soul always continues to live.
The notes also mentioned, if a group of 11 people follow these rituals, all problems would ease out and they would attain salvation. Some notes also had dates mentioned on them on which they were written. All the notes stated reaching the end and gaining peace,” reported PTI, quoting one of the officers investigating the case.
The police are now looking into family’s religious connections with any godman or occult practices. The Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Alok Kumar said, “We have found handwritten notes detailing how hands and legs are to be tied and are quite similar to the manner in which the bodies of 10 persons were found. They are exhaustive notes and we are studying them.”
The post-mortem of five members have been completed and rest would be done at 9 am on Monday. The police are awaiting the post-mortem results to draw any conclusion whether it was a mass suicide or a planned murder. The crime branch’s investigations are underway.
On Sunday morning, 10 members of a family were found hanging at their residence, the 11th member was strangled to death and was lying in other room. The family included seven women, two men, and two minors.
