Colombo: After Delhi, Beijing will be the next destination of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena. According to sources from Sri Lankan External Affairs ministry, Sirisena will visit China soon.Lankan Foreign Minister, Mangala Samarveera will be visiting China on February 27; he will meet his counterpart Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi and other Chinese leaders to pave the way for Sirisena’s visit. In the recent past China tried to draw Colombo in its arm, taking benefit of the strained Delhi-Colombo relationship. The recent improvement in the Indo-Lankan relation has raised the brows of China.

Sirisena’s visit to China is a clear message that although the island state has warmed up relations with India, Lanka still wants to maintain a close tie with China and is unwilling to invite any nefarious treachery due to the renewed friendship with its big SAARC neighbour.A friendly Smiling Buddha image of China is also preferred by New Delhi instead of an angry, vindictive Red Dragon.
