New Delhi: Defense Ministry will soon be taking a decision to replace Indian Air Force’s ageing fleet of 56 Avro aircraft with C-295 military transport carriers. The next meetings of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) will conduct the bid worth Multi crore rupees. The meeting which was scheduled to be held on February 9 was delayed for a few days.
The defense ministry had issued a global tender calling a Request For Proposals (RFP) to the original equipment manufacturers including the US firms Bowing and Lockheed Martin among others.
The companies were requied to tie-up with an Indian Private Company under which 40 aircraft is to be produced here while 16 will be bought.
The defense sources said that a decision on the matter will be taken soon and the defense ministry is to go for re tendering in which the Indian Companies become the main player than the foreign ones.
