Mumbai: A day after ‘Padmavati’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was assaulted by a fringe group Karni Sen, on the Jaipur sets of his film, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh has spoken up against the attack on Saturday.
In a series of tweets, Deepika expressed her shock and sadness over the events that played out at the Jaigarh Fort.
Saying that she was “in a state of shock” and “deeply saddened and disheartened by yesterday’s events”, the actress also came forward to clarify that is “no distortion of history” in the film and that their only endeavour is to share with the world “the story of this courageous and powerful woman in the purest form”there is.
Actor Ranveer Singh has also released a statement in favour of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and has beseeched the people of Rajasthan to support the film.
In his statement, the actor stated that they are keeping in mind the sensitivities and emotions of the people of Rajasthan and the Rajput community while making Padmavati.
The actor also called the attack on the filmmaker “unfortunate.”
‘What’s happened is very unfortunate. We hope the people of Rajasthan will understand & empathise with our intentions andgive us their support,” the actor added in his statement.
Bollywood collectively stood by the director and has condemned the attack on the filmmaker.
