Death Penalty Awarded to Oxy Town Murder Convict


Kolkata: After a delay of almost five years, the Alipore Court on Thursday awarded death sentence to Abhik Ghosh, the main accused in Oxy Town murder case, and sentenced another convict Somnath Tanti to life imprisonment.

Abhik Ghosh and Somnath Tanti have been pronounced guilty by the court a few days ago. On the other hand three more accused have been set free by the court due to the lack of convincing evidence.

ON September 27, 2010 housewife Mousumi Ghosh and her maid Parulbala Ghosh has been murdered at their residence in Oxytown, Behala. Her husband Abhik Ghosh had hired contract killer Somnath Tanti and many others to kill Mousumi.

Earlier on On June 10, 1999, four members of the Pal family – Bidyut, his wife Manjulika and their daughters Sohini and Triparna – were found murdered at their home in Oxytown off Behala. Chakraborty, headmaster of a school in Maheshtala and Sohini’s tutor, was reportedly having an affair with her. Sources said the girl, a BA student, had also undergone abortion.
