DDCA Row: Modi Defends Arun Jaitley

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday came out in defence of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on the DDCA issue saying he will come through with flying colours.

“Arun Jaitley will come through with flying colours in the same manner as L K Advani did in Hawala case,” Modi told BJP Parliamentary Party. “Congress is raking up manufactured allegations to defame government,” added Modi.

Arun Jaitley on Monday dismissed the charges against him as “baseless” and “completely wrong”. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has issued notices to Cm Arvind kejriwal and five senior Aam Aadmi party leaders on a defamation suit filed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

While the civil defamation suit seeks Rs 10 crore in damages, the criminal defamation complaint seeks action against Kejriwal, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Kumar Vishwas, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpai under IPC sections relating to offences of making, disseminating defamatory statements. The AAP leaders filed a caveat before the High Court to ensure no orders are passed in the civil defamation suit without hearing their side. It is learnt that leading lawyer Ram Jethmalani has offered to appear in court for Kejriwal.
