Dam On Raimangal River Bursts, Residents Shifted


Sandeshkhali: A 150 feet long chunk from the river dam on Raimangal river in west Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district collapsed on Sunday night triggering a flood like situation in several nearby villages, said authorities.

As per reports, a section of the dam collapsed near the Manipur area and flood water gushed through Manipur, Taltala and Gopaler Ghat villages. The villagers have been safely evacuated from the area and lodged into a makeshift relief camp at Atapur high School.

Huge swaths of agricultural land and fisheries have been submerged under the flood waters rendering huge financial losses. No reports of any casualty has been received so far. relief teams have been sent to the area and repair works on the dam will be carried on war footing, said officials.
