New Delhi: After the rollout of the unified Goods and Services Tax or GST, dal, foodgrains, and daily consumer goods will be cheaper, the government has said.
Out of 1,211 items, The government has decided GST rates on on all but six, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Thursday.
Milk will be exempted from GST; foodgrains will be cheaper, Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said.
Hair oil, soap, tooth paste to attract 18 per cent GST; cereals will be exempted from tax as opposed to current 5 per cent rate.
GST rate on coal fixed at 5 per cent against current incidence of 11.69 per cent; sugar, tea, coffee, edible oil to also attract 5 per cent tax, Mr Adhia said.
