Dadri: After being denied permission initially Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal finally met the family of Mohammad Ikhlaq on Saturday. Ikhlaq was lynched bu a mob on Monday night after rumours spread that the victim had consumed beef. Kejriwal was accompanied by AAP leader Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh. The local authorities had earlier denied Kejriwal permission to meet the family.
Local authorities escorted AAP leaders to the NTPC guesthouse before finally being allowed to meet with the villagers and Ikhlaq’s family.
Kejriwal, who had initially expressed anger at being denied entry, said that unity between different communities was vital. “We firmly believe that Hindus and Muslims have to stay united and not become vote banks,” he wrote on Twitter. He also slammed those who accused him of trying to gain political mileage by visiting Ikhlaq’s family. “I’m being accused of doing politics. Yes, I’m doing politics. But I’m doing politics of unity and love,” he tweeted.
Kejriwal’s visit follows that of culture minister Mahesh Sharma and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi who had visited the village a day earlier. The situation early Saturday though was tense with reports that a group of women had driven out mediapersons and other visitors from the village.
