New Delhi: Star cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s wedding reception gave former captain Sourav Ganguly a chance to reunite with his Indian teammates from the golden era.
Yuvraj, who got married to Bollywood actress Hazel Keech on November 30 in Chandigarh, headed to Goa for the second round of celebrations.
While the Chandigarh wedding was an intimate affair as per the Sikh traditions and was attended by close family and friends, the Goa wedding was held according to Hindu rituals and was graced by prominent personalities, including India Test captain Virat Kohli and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma.
The latest and the last installment of the gala celebrations was a lavish reception party held on Wednesday evening in Delhi. The party had an impressive guest list, including eminent personalities from the field of cricket and politics. However, it was the presence of some of India’s most iconic cricketers that attracted everyone’s attention.
With Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra and Mohammad Kaif all in attendance, the party brought back memories of Indian cricket’s good times, an era when the team dominated the world.
Interestingly, Yuvraj, Sehwag, Zaheer, Kaif and Zaheer all made their debuts under Ganguly and went on to form the core of the team over the years. It is also worth mentioning that most of that crop of cricketers had a lot of admiration for Ganguly – the leader who helped the team scale new heights.
Ganguly, who captained India from 2000-05, led the team to the final of the 2003 World Cup. His five-year reign also saw India shedding the tag of ‘tigers at home, lamb abroad’.
Ganguly, who is now the boss of Cricket Association of England, led India in 49 ODIs and 147 Tests, winning 21 and 76, respectively.
