Kolkata: Calcutta University on Saturday deferred all undergraduate exams scheduled for August 28. Issuing a notification on Friday, CU’s Controller of Examinations, Jayanta Sinha, declared to postpone all examinations of the public state university’s undergraduate courses, which were scheduled to be conducted on Aug 28.
“Undergraduate examinations scheduled on 28.08.2018 has been deferred,” the notification said. The BSc Part I practicals (honours) and BFAD (bachelor in fashion and apparel designing) theory exams were scheduled for August 28.
According to an official source of the University,“ Some Trinamool Student Union supporters had recently approached the authorities with a request to defer the exams.”
Vice-chancellor Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee and the controller of examinations, Jayanta Sinha, however, didn’t specify any reason.More than 10,000 students were to take the exams on August 28, a university official said.At least 145 colleges are affiliated to Calcutta University and Trinamul Chhatra Parishad controls more than 93 per cent of the students’ unions.
“The party wants participation of as many supporters as possible. Many of the students who would have had exams are our party members. It would have been unfair if they were to miss the rally,” a Trinamul leader said.
Mamata is expected to make some crucial announcements, including the name of the new president of Trinamul Chhatra Parishad, at the August 28 rally.
