Kolkata: The West Bengal Education department has extended the date of admission for undergraduate courses in Calcutta University till July 31.
“We have decided to extend the date from July 22 to July 31 as we were getting lot of requests from guardians and students requesting to extend the date of admission,” state Education minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters here yesterday.
Several students bodies have appealed to the state education department requesting them to extend the dates of admissions beyond July 22.
Calcutta University had been in news last month over cancellation of examinations for question paper goof-ups.
The Political Science, second half of the Part 2 examination under the University of Calcutta was cancelled on June 8.The Political Science examination of its first half. But during the examination, the students were given the second half question paper. This mistake was realized once all the question papers were distributed. As a result, chaos and panic spread among the students. The students then resorted to protest within their College Street campus. The students protested while Partha Chatterjee, the education minister was present within the campus for the inauguration of in-campus buses.
