Update: Four of the NIA officials visited the Watganj Police station. After interrogating Samir Hussain, the NIA have confirmed that there is no possibility of terror attack in relation to the incidence of the bombs and bomb materials found from a house in Khidirpur on Monday. NIA rejected the question of any terror activity. They have said that the bombs were being made keeping ‘dacoity’ in mind.
Kolkata: A crude bomb making unit is busted at the heart of Kolkata in a raid conducted by police following a tip off. A person identified as Samir Hussain alias Sonu has been arrested and two others were detained bu police. Cops seized huge cache of bomb making materials including mobile circuits, detonators and explosives have been seized during the raid.
The cops following a secret information raided a house in Khidirpur on Sunday night and busted the unit. The arrested man will be produced at court today, said officials. The recovery of vast amount of explosive at the heart of city has sent ripples of concern among the security establishment.
The arrested man Samir Hussian is a known anti-social. He has rented the house and was using as a bomb making factory, said police. The owner of the house has been questioned by the cops. Hussain is currently in Oatganj police station for interrogation. He will be produced at the Alipore court today.
The authorities are suspecting that the facility was being used to manufacture remote controlled IEDs. Bomb squad personnel along with a huge police force is currently at the spot and the house has been sealed.
Although DC Port Sudip Sarkar ruled out any terror link, the arrest of several ISI agents from Kolkata recently and the recovery of such a huge cache of explosives have triggered alarm of a possible major subversive activity planned in the city by Islamic terrorists. A case has been registered under the explosives substances act and investigation is on.
