Kolkata: Renowned author and social activist Mahasweta Devi who has been admitted at a private hospital is critically ill and send her to ventilation on Thursday.
The ninety year old recipient of Padma Vibhushan and Jnanpith award had been admitted at Belle Vue Clinic in central Kolkata more than a month ago with age related ailments. But her condition became critical after she suffered kidney disorder and blood infection.
According to doctors attending on her, she has shown some response to the treatment but remains to be critical. Earlier, this year, Mahasweta Devi had undergone treatment at the same hospital and was released after her condition improved.
Once an active voice against oppression and tribal rights in Bengal, she had been confined to her home since the past several months now due to old-age related ailments.
