Court ridicules Police in Sabang case


Sabang: Police was ridiculed by court in connection with the arrest of Chatra Parishad leader Saumen Ganguly who is also the General Secretary of the College of Sabang where a student was beaten to death by other students. When he was produced before 1st Chief Judicial Magistrate Subhrasom Ghosal, his two lawyers Alok Mondal and Hasadhan Bhattacharya submitted a written complaint saying that the police committed contempt of Supreme Court order. His lawyers said that Saumen was arrested on 28 August from Pani Parul area of East Midnapore.

According to the directive to the apex court, while arresting a person, his relative or a renowned person of the area must sign as an alibi. But in this case the person named Ramapada Rao, who signed as the alibi is a resident of Kharagpore. Police ridiculed the Investigating officer Biswajit Mondal and asked him to submit the reason behind the incident on 8 September. Saumen Ganguly has been remanded to 14 days of Judicial Custody.
