Court grants bail to Khaleda Zia in graft case

Dhaka: Former Bangladesh premier and opposition leader Khaleda Zia was granted bail by a special court in two graft cases, after Zia appeared in the court on Sunday.

Zia appeared amid tight security before a special anti-graft court in Dhaka to request bail more than a month after warrants for her arrest were issued, her lawyers said.

Zia is accused of embezzling $650,000 in two corruption cases involving charitable funds during her last term as Prime Minister, from 2001 to 2006. She and leaders of her party have denied the charges, saying they are politically motivated.
