Kolkata: Rakesh Kundu, a 33-year-old traffic sergeant of Kolkata police, died in Nadia’s Chakdah early on Thursday after his bike rammed into a stationary truck on the Chakdah-Banga Expressway.
Police said Kundu, who was riding at a high speed through dense fog, was wearing a plastic helmet that came off his head after the collision. He died on the spot.
An officer of Chakdah police station said Kundu would have survived had he worn a helmet that matched the basic safety standards.
The accident occurred when Kundu, a resident of Chakdah’s Gangnapur Railbazar area, was headed for Chakdah station to board a Sealdah-bound train.
