Kolkata: Police filed Suo Moto case under explosive substance act in connection with Nagerbazar explosion on Tuesday at DumDum police station. Police claims that strong socket bombs were used in explosion. There is no evidence that IED has been used.
Experts said culprits used approximate 8-inch diameter sub-mercurial pump pipe in the blast incident. There may be a large number of splinters inside the bombs.
The explosion took place outside a fruit shop on the ground floor of the building in Nagerbazar’s Kazipara area, which is under the jurisdiction of Dum Dum Police Station, at around 9 am, a police officer said.The injured have been rushed to the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, he added.
The building before which the explosion took place houses the office of South Dum Dum Municipality Chairperson Panchu Roy. A forensic team and sniffer dogs have been sent to the spot to ascertain the nature of explosion.
National Investigation Agency (NIA), talking to CID on the Nagerbazar blast. According to sources, the National Investigation Agency has taken basic information about the explosion from CID. NIA has expressed concern over the blasts. NIA detectives may go to the spot on Wednesday.
