CoochBehar: One person was killed and a number of people were injured in a political clash between supporters of two political parties in CoochBehar district on Sunday night.
As per reports, the clash took place at the Jamaldaha area of the district in which one person named Ramjan Mian was killed and many people were injured on Sunday late night. The police, however, did not specify the number of injured persons.
The CPI(M) leaders of the CoochBehar district later claimed that deceased Ramjan Mian was their active supporter and their newly elected gram panchayat member of Jamaldaha, Atabul Islam was among the injured in the political clash between supporters of two political parties.
The CPI(M) leaders alleged that the clash started when Trinamool Congress workers tried to set the house of Islam on fire which was resisted by CPI(M) activists. The Trinamool Congress has denied the CPI(M) allegations.
To maintain the law and oder in the area a huge contingent of police force was deployed in the area of Jamaldaha. The police, however, did not specify the number of injured persons.
It may be mentioned that during the panchayat polls over 20 people were injured after clashes broke out in Cooch Behar. Locals alleged that Trinamool Congress workers thrashed them.
The incident took place on that day when an Independent member of the Cooch Behar zila parishad said he wants to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Krishna Kanta Burman had won a single seat in Cooch Behar in the Panchayat elections. Burman had contested the elections as an Independent as he was unhappy over the fact that he was denied a TMC ticket.
As the Independent candidate who had managed to win a single seat in the Panchayat polls, joining the Trinamool Congress, the Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad became opposition free now.
