Kolkata: The Pradesh Congress leadership has decided to not form alliance with the TMC party. The Pradesh Congress leadership claims that by going into an alliance with TMC will invite loss for the Congress party. Hence, they will not join hands with the TMC. However, they will inform whether they will form alliance with the CPM or not.
To strenthen the party, the Pradesh Congress called a meeting on Tuesday with the districts of North Bengal. Apart from Pradesh president Somen Mitra, WB AICEC’s observer Gourav Gagoi was also there. He asked for opinions of every representative of the North Bengal districts. According to sources, almost everyone expressed displeasure in going in an alliance with TMC. Later, Somen Mitra also agreed. He said that by working with TMC, the Congress party only incurred loses. Hence, no one wants to join hands with them.
This is the first meeting of Somen Mitra with district leadership after taking position as the Pradesh Congress president. On Wednesday, he will convene separate meeting with the South Bengal representatives.
Rahul Gandhi had presided over a meeting with the new committee of the Pradesh Congress in Delhi. The main topics of discussion was on how to make the weak party strong before the Lok Sabha elections. At the end of the meeting, Rahul Gandhi had asked Congress to become independent. At that time, Somen Mitra and other leaders said to fight alone in the Lok Sabha.
On Tuesday too, the Congress leaders said that candidates can be given for 42 seats. But several have spoken of going into an alliance with CPM. According to them, if they join CPM, then their vote bank will increase. Gourav also said that they will work on the decision taken by Pradesh Congress.
