Kolkata: The Congress has rescheduled the Bangla Bandh to August 18 (Tuesday) from August 20 (Thursday) as the later mentioned day stands as the birthdate of the former Prime Minister of the Country, Rajib Gandhi. Earlier, protesting against the murder of the student and rising cases of atrocities by the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state, West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee had called for a Bangla Bandh on August 20. WBPCC President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury declared this at a meeting in Siliguri in North Bengal.
A Press conference was called by Chowdhury in protest of TMC atrocities and the murder of students in the state. Speaking to the journalists, he said, “Protesting against the killing of Class 12 student Shabina Khatun and killing of the college student of Sabang we are calling for a strike on 20 August (Now 18th).” He said that Congress will observe a 12 hour bandh throughout the state on August 20 (Now 18th). He has called on the supporters and workers of the congress to make the Bandh successful. He even demanded a CBI probe into the killing to the Sabang student claiming that the state police or CID won’t conduct the investigation fairly.
