Bengaluru: To prevent any defection to the BJP, the Congress is moving their MLAs from the Eagleton resort in Bengaluru to the Crown Plaza hotel in Kochi, Kerala. Although, the party has not confirmed this, sources said that 100 rooms in the hotel have been booked and the lawmakers will check in to the hotel later tonight.
The move to shift the MLAs has been in the making since Wednesday, once it became clear that the BJP would get a chance to prove its majority first. Sources say JDS MLAs are being taken to Kochi as well, but HD Kumaraswamy has denied reports. Meanwhile, voices against BJP coming to power in Karnataka despite a fractured mandate have been raised in other states as well.
From Mayawati to Akhilesh Yadav and now DMK’s working president M K Stalin have slammed B S Yeddyurappa for taking oath as Karnataka chief minister. While Mayawati called it “destruction of Constitution and Akhilesh termed the move as “death of freedom”, Stalin said, “All of us saw how PM Modi misused the office of Governor in Tamil Nadu. The same has been done in Karnataka. This is totally against democracy and rule of law. We condemn it.”
