Rumi Nath remanded to police custody: Car theft racket


Guwahati: Congress MLA Rumi Nath has been remanded to police custody for 24 hours by the CJM court at Kamrup metro on Tuesday. A team of Delhi police has arrived at Guwahati to investigate on Chauhan, an accused in almost 500 cases of car theft across the country.

Rumi Nath has been arrested by Police on Tuesday. She was arrested from a Government Hostel in Guwahati. She is an MLA of Barak valley’s Dholai . It has been alleged that she was involved with a car stealing racket with an individual named Anil Chauhan. She had provided him with a car pass of the State Assembly and MLA hostel.

It has been alleged that she had gifted her former husband Jackey with a car which was reportedly stolen by Anil Chauhan. Both Anil and Jackey has been arrested by police. The security officer along with Jackey has also been arrested by police.

She had appealed to Guwahati High Court for an interim bail which was not granted and ultimately she was arrested by police on Monday after remaining absconding for quite a few days.
