Kolkata: Protests erupted on Friday in South City College. The day section of the institute(Heramba Chandra College) engaged in a fistfight with its evening section(Prafulla Chandra college).
A student of Heramba Chandra college was allegedly beaten by the evening section ones. Trinamool Student Union members raged in protest of the incident on Friday morning.
However, no official complaint has been lodged with the police or the college authorities. Principal of Heramba Chandra College, Nabanita Chakraborty assured action if complaint gets filed.
The two parties engaged in a brawl over a student of Heramba Chandra college staying back post college hours. A student of Commerce, Abhishek Singh was chatting away his time in the college premises. This irked the evening section students and they bashed Singh up. Singh allege that he suffered a fractured nose owing to the beatings.
Friday morning saw a furor with TMC Student Union demanding strict action against the assailants. Ironically, those students of Prafulla Chandra College belong to the same union.
The protests disrupted the daily college proceedings. Many students along with the college principal were barred from entering the college premises. Some Part II examination candidates, which will commence from May 2, waited for long to collect their admit cards.
The blockade was lifted in the afternoon hours owing to the plights of the other students.
