Commonwealth Games 2018: India’s 1st Wrestling Medal, 5th Silver In Gold Coast


Gold Coast: On the day eighth of Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast, Babita Kumari won India’s first wrestling medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, getting a silver medal in the women’s 53 kg freestyle event (CWG 2018) on Thursday.

Shooter Tejaswini Sawant also won silver in the women’s 50m prone shooting event. Earlier, Indian wrestlers Sushil Kumar, Rahul Aware and Babita Kumari stormed into the final of their weight categories, scheduled to be held in the afternoon.

It is the first day of competition for the wrestlers and four are in the fray including the trio in the title clash and Kiran, who will fight the repechage rounds for a chance to wrestle for bronze. Later in the day, Indian women’s hockey team takes on Australia in the semi-final.
