Commandos Conduct Anti-Terror Drill in Delhi

New Delhi: Security forces carried out mock drills at various places in Delhi on Tuesday night.

Commandos and cops conducted drills at a Vasant Kunj mall, Palika Bazaar and a food court near Nehru Place Metro station, to check their preparedness to handle a terror strike in the national capital.

As part of the mock exercise, ‘terrorists’ were spotted. NSG and SWAT commandos and Delhi cops ‘killed’ the ‘assailants’ and ‘rescued’ the victims who were rushed to hospitals by fire and medical emergency teams.

A number of prominent malls and shopping complexes were evacuated during the exercise.

“To conduct these mock drills, the joint commissioners of all police ranges in the city were instructed in advance and the entire operation was carried out under the supervision of Special Police Commissioner (Law and Order),” said a senior police official.

The larger part of the drive was conducted after 9pm as the crowds for the year-end revelries are expected to swell during the late evening hours, the official said.

“The drills were held to enhance our preparedness ahead of New Year’s eve to deal with any potential threats,” the official added.
