College Student killed in a cricket match brawl


New Delhi: Tension prevailed in Srikakulam town after a cricket field brawl between two students led to the death of one of the boys.

Pitta Ajay Kumar, a second-year student of Sun degree college, was reportedly attacked by a group of students led by another teenager, T. Kishore Kumar during a cricket match in Bondilipuram locality on Saturday morning.

Ajay Kumar was batting when a quarrel erupted over a wide ball. In the heat of the moment, members of the opposing team attacked him with cricket bats. He was hit in the head, chest and groin and collapsed on the field. Frightened by the development, the assailants fled the ground.

A frantic call was made to a 108 ambulance and Ajay Kumar was rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Srikakulam but was declared brought dead.

Tension prevailed at Bondilipuram with the families of the two teenagers reaching the spot. Srikakulam Superintendent of Police A.S. Khan has also reached the spot and inquired about the incident. Police have registered a case and collected details of the incident.

Mr. Khan directed the officials to defuse the tension and take the students into custody after conducting a thorough inquiry. A post-mortem will take place on Monday.
