Kolkata: WB education department has said on Monday that the admission to colleges this academic session will be conducted entirely in the online mode. The decision was communicated to the heads of the state-run colleges during a meeting today 20 May chaired by education minister Partha Chatterjee.
Going by this, no student wanting admission to a college anywhere in Bengal will be required to visit the campus in person to collect and deposit form. Instead, they shall have to submit the application form online, wait for the shortlist, and if his/her name appears then pay the stipulated admission fee in the online mode.
A concerned college will verify the student’s documents only when the classes start. In the event of discovering an anomaly, the admission will be cancelled and the seat will be allotted to someone from the waitlist.
The education department has clarified that the criterion for admission will be the marks secured in the higher secondary final exam. Based on this, colleges will publish first shortlist, second shortlist, and third shortlist on their websites.
The steps come ahead of the publication of Bengal board run higher secondary exam on 27 May. CBSE XII and ISE results have already been published.
