CM Mamata’s Effigy Burnt At College Street

Kolkata: The workers of ABVP party burnt effigies of chief minister Mamata Banerjee
on Thursday in protest to the death of two former students of North Dinajpur’s
Darivit, who also belonged to the ABVP party.

On Saturday, the ABVP workers did a rally from Shyambazar crossing to College
Street crossing. They also created a human-bond at Mahatma Gandhi road which
disrupted the traffic completely. The traffic which was Howrah and Sealdah bound
were left stranded. Some officers are closed on Saturday and schools and colleges
have half day, but yet the traffic was out of control.

Slogans such as “Chatra mere urdu prem, Mukkhomantri shame shame” were raised from
the rally. The slogan roughly translates to – students killed and then you have liking for
Urdu, the CM should be ashamed.

ABVP state general secretary Subir Haldar said, “This government has conspired and
killed students. 11 were arrested after this incident. We demand the state
government to free them without any conditions. If not done, then the entire Bengal
will be made crippled.”
