Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be the special guest at the installation ceremony of a Blue Plaque at the house of Sister Nivedita today.
Mamata Banerjee will be the special guest at the installation of the Blue Plaque at Sister Nivedita’s residence. The function on Sunday is being organised by English Heritage. Swami Suhitananda, one of the vice-presidents of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, will also be present at the function.
In an extraordinary gesture, Queen Elizabeth II has sent her warm wishes to those who will be present at the function and described it as a most memorable event.
Margaret Elizabeth Noble, who later came to be known as Sister Nivedita, used to stay in the house in 1898 before she came to Kolkata. Swami Vivekananda had visited the house in 1895. Jagadish Chandra Bose and his wife Abala had stayed in the house for some time in 1900. After the event of the Blue plaque, a cultural function will be held in an auditorium situated very close to the site of installation of the plaque.
Mamata Banerjee reached United Kingdom on Saturday morning. She will meet businessmen at Scotland and discuss with them the advantages of investing in Bengal. She is likely to meet NRIs from Bengal here. State Finance minister Amit Mitra and Chief Secretary Malay De, too, will be present at the meeting with businessmen.
