Kolkata: The newly elected Members of Legislative Asembly (MLAs) from 5 districts took their oaths in the Legislative Assembly on Saturday.
98 MLAs from five districts, namely Kolkata, Hoogly, Howrah, North 24 Pargana and South 24 Pargana took part in their swearing-in ceremony at the Legislative Assembly on Saturday. The MLAs were made to take their oaths by the protem speaker Jatu Lahiri.
Among the 98 MLAs, Mamata Banerjee, Biman Banerjee, Amit Mitra, Partha Chatterjee, Subrata Mukherjee, Sovandeb Chatterjee, Jyotiprio Mullick, Purnendu basu, Rajib Banerjee, Sovab Chatterjee, Firhad Hakim, Bratya Basu, Aroop Biswas, Laxmiratan Shukla had taken their oaths.
State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee was elected deputy leader of Trinamool Congress legislative party. TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh was elected as the chief whip of the TMC legislative party. MLA Tapas Ray was elected as the deputy chief whip.
MLA Tapas Ray was elected as the deputy chief whip. Senior Congress leader Abdul Manan, CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty too took oath as MLAs.
In the Assembly polls, the TMC acquired a massive mandate with 211 out of 294 seats. This big win wiped out the CPM-Congress alliance as they secured only 77 seats from Bengal. On May 27, Mamata Banerjee and 42 other ministers took their oaths amid the presence of political heavyweights including Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav and many more. Later on in the day, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the portfolio of her 42 ministerial candidates.
