Kharagpur: Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the 64th convocation ceremony of IIT Kharagpur on Friday, along with Honourable President, Honourable Governor, Honourable Director of IIT, Deputy Director, her Cabinet colleagues, ministers, faculty members of the IIT, and other officials.
At the beginning of her speech, she expressed her gratitude to the Honourable President for requesting her presence in the ceremony. She said she was “greatly honoured that I am present here along with all of you.” She urged the graduating students to conquer the world, but not forget their motherland or their State. She also asked to them to always respect their parents and teachers.“This is one of the best institutions in the world. I believe so…. It is number one after Independence…. It is a centre of academic excellence too…,” Mamata, the guest of honour at the institute’s 64th convocation, said.

On Friday, every time she lauded the institution describing it as “one of the best… an institution of excellence… the number one IIT”, loud cheers and applause greeted her.
There was a similar round of applause when Mamata said she had “love and affection” for each one of the students and that all who received degrees and medals would conquer the world.
India is a country of diverse caste, creed and religion and everyone should work together to protect this unity, she told the audience. She requested the graduating students not to forget their country, state, teachers and their parents.
