Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has been hospitalised with fever and dehydration, doctors treating her at a hospital in Chennai said.
The 68-year-old is stable and under observation, doctors at the Apollo Hospitals said in a statement.
Before hospitalized, Chief minister J Jayalalithaa has presented books for medical students, worth 1.50 lakh, through Namadhu MGR Charitable Trust and Best Charitable Trust. An official release said the books would be kept in the libraries of government hospitals and medical colleges at Tiruvarur, Tiruvannamalai, Sivaganga, Villupuram, Coimbatore and Chennai.
She also sanctioned 75,000 towards the first year college fees of K Kalaivani of New Washermenpet in RK Nagar, who secured admission to a physiotherapy course. The release said the grant was issued through the Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Best Charitable Trust.
Moulivakkam bldg may be demolished on weekend: The remaining 11-storey building at Moulivakkam is likely to be demolished either on Saturday or Sunday, police said.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) had told the Madras high court that the building would be pulled down by the end of this month.
Two arrested for selling liquor: The Selayur police raided two Tasmac shops on Camp Road and Selayur and arrested two people who were selling liquor early morning. The police siezed 158 liquor bottles from Boominathan and Saravanan.
