Kolkata: Bengal Gobal Business summit takes off with the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley inaugurating the program and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee delivering the opening speech in the august presence of renowned industrialist like Adi Godrej, Harsh Neotia of the Godrej group of companies and delegates from 16 countries including USA, Japan, Spain, China, Malaysia, Taiwan and Bangladesh.
Delivering her inaugural speech, the CM called on the investors to consider Bengal as their own motherland and government will extend all possible help to the industrialists. Regarding the availability of land for setting up industries she said that land is readily available for industrialization. She claimed that West Bengal is No. 1 in talent, skill power, banking and agriculture.
Banerjee called on the neighbouring countries of India to set-up co-operative projects with Bengal. Terming Bangladesh as a friendly country, she said that the government is ready to join hands with the neighbouring country for setting up industries.
She also said that there is no dearth of workers in the state and employment bank is available to provide the required labour for industrialization. She told the industrialists, “If you nurture Bengal you will get ready-made man power.” Speaking about agriculture she said that the agricultural production of the state is very high and Bengal is in the 1st position in providing 100 days job to the labourers.
Talking about the availability of electricity she said that electricity supply is surplus in the state and investment is coming through the PPP model. Colleges, Universities, IT hubs and hospitals are also being set up through the PPP model.
Speaking on the occasion, State Finance Minister Dr. Amit Mitra urged the union Finance Minister to do away with the loan of Rs 28,000 crore which the state government has to pay the center every year.
The summit will be attended by Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari later in the afternoon and the main event will start with the Indian Business leaders delivering their speeches at the event.
