Kolkata: The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for new campus of Calcutta High Court at Rajarhat.
Mamata Banerjee said that Calcutta High Court is the oldest court of India. Several prominent figures have practiced law here. The workload on Calcutta High Court is increasing. Number of cases, advocates is increasing. New infrastructure was thus required.
Mamata also addeed that state govt gave the land for this complex at Re 1. From the Eco Park to the Wax Museum, from the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre to the Vivek Tirtha – we are creating a lot of new infrastructure in Newtown.
Mamata continued “We have set up 88 fast-track courts, 73 women’s police stations, 6 new police commissionerates, several new districts.There are human rights courts in every district. We have also set up family courts and CBI courts.”
